Our latest ESG report
Our ESG report takes a deep dive into our environment, social and governance strategy and the progress we’ve made so far. It shares key achievements across the five pillars of our social value framework, and shows how we’re working to reduce emissions, establish and maintain responsible and sustainable supply networks, and help our colleagues and communities to thrive.
As an industry-leader in ESG, our innovative work in this field has seen us recognised with the following accreditations and awards.
Our environmental commitments
Our approach to sustainability is embedded in every contract and project, as well as being at the heart of our internal operations. Our industry-leading Plan Zero commitments will see Mitie become Net Zero carbon for direct operational emissions by 2025 – and indirect emissions by 2035.
As part of this pledge, we’ve already built one of the UK’s largest electric fleets, and invested in heat pumps and solar PV to decarbonise our built environment. We’ve also established a science-based carbon reduction plan to reduce supply chain emissions and ensure positive, ethical and sustainable sourcing.
The wellbeing of people and communities is central to all our activities. Our world-class people function works to develop talent, embrace diversity and inclusion and break down barriers to employment. And our dedicated Learning and Development team supported a record-breaking 1,100 apprenticeships in 2023.
But it’s not just about providing opportunities internally. We dedicate thousands of volunteer hours every year to help communities tackle the issues that affect them the most – like protecting our environment and providing opportunities to underrepresented groups.
Our environmental and social commitments and underpinned by four levels of governance designed to promote a culture of continuous improvement and help us remain at the forefront of ESG activities.
With senior-level oversight of all activities and several working groups dedicated to ESG, these standards ensure we can identify risks and opportunities, and encourage collaboration between all stakeholders to fulfil our moral, legal and contractual obligations.
Our social value framework provides a foundation for all our ESG activities, from working with investors and winning new business to delivering a sustainable service that brings value to people and communities.
It ensures we can adopt meaningful strategies to improve health and education, reduce inequality, spur economic growth, tackle climate change and preserve natural environments.
